STEPS TO MAKE THIS PIE

  1. Prepare this instant chocolate pudding. Depending on the brand you buy, it may require different amounts of milk. It is so nice that this recipe calls for instant pudding because it just speeds up the process of this easy pie even a little bit more!
  2. Once the pudding is ready, pour a little less than half of the chocolate pudding in to your premade graham cracker crust! I also love that I can just go pick up a graham cracker crust from my local grocery store, and i don’t have to worry about slaving away over a homemade crust!
  3. Mix the remaining chocolate pudding with about half of the whipped cream! Stir well, so that the mixture is one creamy chocolate color. This mixture creates the next layer of the chocolate pie. Spread this mixture over the chocolate pudding base layer.
  4. Next, spread and smooth the remainder of the whipped cream over the creamy chocolate layer. This will be the last layer of your pie.
  5. Take the Hershey’s bar and with a potato peeler, shave little chocolate swirls to sprinkle on top of the white creamy whipped cream layer. These shavings add delicious rich chocolate flavors and also help to make the pie look beautiful
  6. Refrigerate this pie for just an hour before serving. Chilling the pie helps it to set, and also it tastes incredible when it is cold!

That is it! How easy is this pie! You will be done with a delicious dessert in ten minute tops! It is so great to have something so amazing done so quickly. We know that you are going to be in love with this Pie and that it will become one of your new favorites! How could it not?

FAQs

Why won t my chocolate pie thicken? ›

The trick for thick (not runny!)

There are four important elements to a thick pie filling 1) using enough egg yolks, 2) using cornstarch, 3) using unsweetened chocolate and 4) cooking the filling long enough so the mixture coagulates (that happens at 160 degrees).

How do you thicken instant pudding for pie? ›

If your almond milk-based instant pudding isn't setting properly for your pie, you can try these quick solutions: gently heat and stir the mixture on the stovetop, add a small amount of cornstarch or gelatin, mix in a bit more instant pudding mix, or let it set in the refrigerator for more time.

How do you doctor up pudding? ›

Add a Topping

Upgrade your instant pudding by layering it with a sweet topping. Put a dollop of whipped cream on top for a creamy taste with minimal effort. Or, place fresh fruit on top for an elaborate display. Use fruits like strawberries, raspberries or sliced banana for the best flavor combos.

Why won t my chocolate pie set up? ›

This can happen for several reasons: if the cooking process was rushed, if the filling wasn't carefully watched and stirred frequently, the filling was overcooked, the stovetop heat was too high, or if the pie isn't given enough time to chill. Any ingredient substitutions could also result in a runny chocolate pie.

How do you keep a pudding pie from getting watery? ›

To fix this, you can cook the pudding mixture over low heat until it thickens, or add a thickener such as cornstarch or tapioca flour. Another possible reason for a runny banana cream pie is that the pie filling was not chilled properly before being added to the crust.

Why did my pudding pie not set? ›

Instant pudding takes about 5-10 minutes to set up. That means it gets thicker as it sits. If you added the cool whip immediately, it lost its chance to thicken.

How do you fix pudding that didn't set? ›

Your best bet would be to mix a tablespoon of cornstarch and a teaspoon of sugar with some of the beverage and add it to the warm pudding. Heat it to a bubble and stir until it thickens.

What can I add to pudding to make it better? ›

Spices: A pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg, or even a tiny dash of cardamom can enhance the flavor of vanilla or butterscotch pudding. Extracts: Add a drop or two of extracts like vanilla, almond, or rum to your pudding for a subtle but pleasant flavor boost.

What can I add to instant pudding to make it taste better? ›

Whether you're making pudding from scratch or starting with a box mix, you can always add a little extra flavor. A teaspoon of vanilla extract can add richness to any pudding. A bit of espresso powder can make chocolate puddings taste more chocolaty—add more for a mocha flavor.

Why is my homemade chocolate pudding grainy? ›

Once the pudding cooled and the fat solidified, any bits that hadn't been thoroughly broken down came across as grainy on the tongue. Vigorously whisking the pudding—or any custard with a generous amount of butter—breaks down the fat into tiny droplets that are too small to detect once the mixture cools.

How to jazz up instant pudding? ›

You could stop at vanilla extract and be perfectly content, or you could add fun stir-ins like dulce de leche and pretzels.

What ingredient makes instant pudding thicken? ›

A key ingredient in instant pudding is gelatinized starch, a dried instant starch that readily absorbs liquids, which causes the pudding to gel when mixed with milk. Additional ingredients sometimes used as a thickener include gums that are soluble in cold water, such as carrageenans and alginates.

Will my chocolate pie thicken as it cools? ›

As the filling cools it will thicken, and if you slice the pie before it cools to room temperature, it won't thicken no matter how long you wait. This is also true of pies with custard fillings. They need to have that elusive jiggly center when you take them out of the oven.

What to do if your pie is too runny? ›

The best way to thicken runny apple pie filling before baking it is to add some cornstarch, tapioca starch, or flour to your mix. To fix a runny pie that's already been baked, simply let it cool to see if it will congeal naturally. If not, you can stick it back in the oven for a bit longer.

Why didn't my pie filling thicken? ›

Maybe bring the filling to a boil before you fill it in the pie, because starch/semonila might need 3 seconds of boiling to unfold their binding features. Add a bit of flour (1-2 T), and make sure you cook it long enough. Flour needs to be heated before it will thicken (think about making a roux).

How do you thicken a runny pie? ›

When thickening a fruit pie filling, there are several options to consider. Very often flour or cornstarch is used, but in certain instances tapioca, arrowroot and potato starch can also help achieve the desired consistency.
