Fifty Shades Of Grey Franchise Is Now Complete On Netflix After Adding The Series' Most Divisive Movie (2024)

Summary

  • Fifty Shades of Grey movies now on Netflix, topping charts in Top 10 list.
  • Profitable trilogy still divisive, lowest Rotten Tomatoes scores for third movie.
  • Despite criticism, movies remain popular, with engaging romantic plot and sexy thrills.

The entire Fifty Shades Of Grey franchise is now streaming on Netflix. The popular film adaptation of the bestselling novel of the same name by E.L. James was initially released in theaters on February 13, 2015 and struck a chord in the cultural zeitgeist, becoming one of the most profitable and talked about movies of that year. The film, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson (Back to Black, Hunters), gave an international spotlight to both Fanning and Johnson, who were at the time still rising leads.

Fifty Shades of Grey still holds a career-best record for both of its stars, Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson. Fifty Shades of Grey earned just under $570 million at the worldwide box office, becoming the eleventh highest-grossing movie of 2015, which was topped by Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens' $2.07 billion box office gross. While the Fifty Shades trilogy is undeniably popular, all three films received poor reviews from critics, with Fifty Shades Freed receiving the most hate.

All Three Fifty Shades Of Grey Movies Are Now Streaming On Netflix

Two of the three movies are in Netflix's Top 10

Arriving over two weeks after Fifty Shades of Grey and Fifty Shades Darker, Fifty Shades of Freed is now also on Netflix, completing the highly profitable trilogy on the giant streaming platform. As of the time of writing, Fifty Shades Darker is in the number 5 spot on Netflix's Top 10 Movies List and Fifty Shades of Freed is currently in the number 3 spot. Critic reviews aside, there is no denying just how popular the Fifty Shades trilogy is.

While none of the Fifty Shades movies are well-received by critics, Fifty Shades Freed is widely considered to be the most divisive movie of the trilogy. The film has the lowest Rotten Tomatoes critic score by a longshot with an abysmal rating of just 11%. By comparison, Fifty Shades Darker also has an 11% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, which is equally below the 25% critic score of the original. That being said, Fifty Shades Darker has the highest audience score in the trilogy.

While its Rotten Tomatoes critics score is the same as Fifty Shades Darker, the audience score for Freed is even worse at 38%, the lowest of the trilogy. Many viewers were quick to express their disappointment in the total lack of a strong narrative in the final installment of the trilogy, which essentially destroyed any hope of redemption for the trilogy. Despite some fun and memorable moments in the final installment, Fifty Shades Freed suffers from poor acting and direction even though its massive popularity continue to defy the odds to this day.
