I did an article not long ago about removing marker from the couch. We have a child who decided our couch would be their new art project. The markers and colors were everywhere!
Half of me was really impressed.Way to go, kid! You drew a circle, that’s fantastic! The other part of my mind was screaming in sheer panic,You drew on the couch! What were you thinking!?….Never mind, you’re only 2, you are probably thinking this would be a great idea and lots of fun!
I know I shouldn’t care about the couch or the walls being covered in markers. The child is more important and my husband and I bought our couch years ago.
Yet, I do care.
Part of me feels like cleaning a home where toddlers live is like brushing your teeth with Oreo’s in your mouth. It’s difficult and just can’t happen.
But, don’t lose hope or faith. There is an easier way!
After my child made his beautiful artwork on our walls I thought back to the couch. I wondered if the same mixture that worked wonders on the couch would do the same for the wall.
It did! I was so happy!
Removing Marker Off Your Wall: Easy Recipe & Tips
Here is a list of the supplies that you need. If you don’t have a magic eraser cleaning pad, you can use a washcloth.
I am biased towards these wonderful cleaning pads and use them on practically everything when cleaning time comes. If you do have one, use it, it’ll make life a lot easier for you. If you don’t, don’t panic. Just use a washcloth.
Supplies Needed:
Magic Eraser Cleaning Pad(you can see mine is well loved and used from the photograph). This pad has been the warrior of removing many markings off walls and couches.
A small or medium-sized bowl containing the mixture. Depending on how much of a mess you are cleaning up will determine how big your bowl needs to be.
Ingredients:
1 Tablespoon of liquid hand dishwashing detergent.
1 Tablespoon of white vinegar.
2 cups of warm water.
You will first want to mix these three ingredients in a small or medium-sized bowl. With the mess, my child made I still had liquid remaining after cleaning up. And if you have to make a second batch to finish your cleaning that’s okay.
The pictures above are the artistic renderings of my child. Thankfully he didn’t get very far on his work.
Dip your cleaning pad or washcloth into the water and start wiping down the walls. There will be no need to scrub. The white vinegar is where the magic happens.
After wiping the marker, take your dry washcloth and wipe down the walls as to remove the liquids. This will help your walls dry faster as well.
Above are pictures of the wall after being treated with the white vinegar mixture. You can’t even tell there was a marker on the wall. This is one of the easiest cleaning hacks you will find!

Rubbing alcohol, hand sanitiser, aerosol hairspray, white toothpaste (not gel), or a magic eraser can remove the marker stains from your walls. Be very careful when rubbing walls, though. If you rub too hard you can end up removing the paint, especially with abrasive cleaners like magic erasers.
Baking Soda: Sprinkling some baking soda on the stain and scrubbing it with a toothbrush can also do the trick. Rubbing alcohol wipes: You can also try rubbing alcohol wipes.
Vinegar/lemon juice: Acids, like vinegar and lemon juice, can be effective against permanent marker stains. Though they are mildly acidic in nature, they can still dissolve mineral deposits, dirt, grease, and grime. White vinegar is also antibacterial and works best on synthetic fibers.
Start by treating the permanent marker stain with warm sudsy water and multipurpose household cleaner, according to the manufacturer's instructions. If they don't do the trick, dab the stain with a cotton ball that is damp with rubbing alcohol. Blot with water, then pat dry.
First, pour a bit of hydrogen peroxide onto a dry cloth and scrub the stained area. Secondly, take some rubbing alcohol on a separate dry cloth and scrub the stain again. This one-two punch should be able to knock that stain right out!
Rubbing alcohol, methylated spirits, and antibacterial hand gels should be applied until the area becomes wet, and hairspray should be applied thickly to the area (the stain should feel a little damp and sticky). Leave the solvent on the stain for 15 minutes, giving it time to break down the bonds.
Easily remove Sharpie marks from walls with one of my favourite household products! Just grab a magic eraser, spray some Windex or other window cleaner on the wall and start rubbing. Within seconds the permanent marker will no longer be permanent.
Another abrasive is peanut butter! The vegetable oil will break down the pigment while the peanuts will act as an abrasive. Use with a soft bristled brush (an old toothbrush perhaps) to tackle the stain. A similar idea using abrasives is the pencil eraser that you rub on the mark as you would a pencil mark on paper.
It works magically like a bleach-based ink eraser. Remember not to rub more than thrice as it can make the paper wrinkled more or even tear. Even while rubbing for the first time, the cheap paper begins to wrinkle. After erasing all the ink, use a paper towel to soak extra residue of lemon juice.
Common household products such as toothpaste, hairspray and vinegar can be used to remove permanent marker stains. Here are tips to remove it from various objects and surfaces. Carpet- White vinegar and Dawn dishwashing detergent.
How to remove permanent markers from fabrics? Implement Mixture of vinegar, borax, lemon juice and milk: Using this mixture to remove stains from satin fabrics is super effective. Firstly, you need to mix the solution well and then apply it to the stain. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.
Rubbing alcohol, hand sanitiser, hairspray, nail polish remover, or non-gel toothpaste can all be used to remove permanent marker from everyday fabric items like clothes, pillows, or bedsheets. So, before dumping your permanent marker-stained clothes in the bin, try wiping the stain with an alcohol-based hairspray.
Sponge the stain with rubbing alcohol and blot. Then, sponge with cold water and dab until the liquid is absorbed. If the stain remains, apply a few drops of Amodex to your stain and rub it in with a toothbrush or cloth. Continue rubbing stained area until the stain disappears.
