At the bottom of the vegetable list was sweet potato with 10.51, and grapefruit ranked lowest amongst fruits with a score of 10.47. This highlights the stark difference in nutrient density between various fruits and vegetables.

Dr. Di Noia stresses the significance of these findings, explaining that "Powerhouse fruits and vegetables are strongly associated with reduced chronic disease risk. This includes cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases and some cancers." In other words, prioritizing these nutrient-packed foods can significantly contribute to long-term health and well-being.

She further adds, "The scores may help focus consumers on their daily energy needs, and how best to get the most nutrients from their foods. The rankings provide clarity on the nutrient quality of the different foods and may aid in the selection of more nutrient-dense items within the powerhouse group." This information empowers consumers to make informed choices and optimize their diets for maximum health benefits.
