Publix Christmas Dinner Prices & Tips 2023 - Eat Like No One Else (2024)

Are you looking to choose your meat for Christmas dinner at Publix this year? I had the chance to visit a store in Cape Canaveral, FL and see what they had available.

How affordable are the options? Let's find out.

🍖 Standing Rib Roast

For me, Christmas dinner starts with the standing rib roast. This is what is also referred to as prime rib but it's not really prime rib if it's not prime graded.

At Publix I found two options. Both of them are labelled as Choice.

You are very unlikely to find a cheaper price on a rib roast than at Publix especially for choice. Some place may have select for cheaper but those are your bottom of the barrel roasts.

I recommend buying your rib roast as soon as you can and then wrapping it in cheesecloth in the fridge with your seasonings already on. It's an at home version of dry aging.

When picking out a roast look for the one that has the best fat marbling. The difference with the Greenwise roasts is that they are Angus Beef. I would have to taste them side by side to say how much is matters. Even at 3 dollars more a pound, that's still a good price as you are going to pay more money any other time of year for a lower cheaper quality roast.

🐖 Ham

Another popular option is ham. I love a good ham. We like to do a rib roast and a ham because my daughter doesn't like beef but does like pork and ham. Here is what you can expect to find.

The best deal is going to be to buy the semi-boneless ham. Yes, they are harder to slice up, but it's not too challenging if you have an electric knife to help you out. This is the ham I am going to buy this year and I am going to cook it in the Instant Pot.

The spiral slice ham comes with 3 different glaze packets - honey, brown sugar, and maple bourbon. I prefer to make my own glaze. My favorite is a blackberry glaze. You can find the recipe for that in my ALDI Ham Christmas dinner post at the bottom of the post.

🦃 Turkey

If you are someone that does turkey for more than just Thanksgiving you are in luck if you shop at Publix. Here is what I found.

Not as big of a selection as I found at Thanksgiving time, but the 99 cents a pound Publix frozen turkey is likely going to be the best price you will find on a turkey for Christmas anywhere.

We used the Greenwise Turkey Breast for Thanksgiving this year and was pleased with it. I like that nothing is added to it. No extra ingredients like water, broth, salt, sugar, etc. That's the nice thing about Publix's Greenwise brand.

How about a smoked turkey? You have options for that as well.

It's definably a better value to buy the whole turkey but if your family just like white meat go with the breast. Either one would be easy to reheat and have another meat option on Christmas. Maybe instead of a ham and rib roast you can do a smoked turkey and a rib roast to change things up.
